Hey Table family,
I didn’t sleep much last night (and sure I am not alone in that), reading new policies that are going to make things even tougher for our friends experiencing homelessness. I won’t get political here, but it’s real. It’s frustrating. It’s heavy. It’s harmful.
And yet, this week also reminded me exactly why we do what we do.
Just a few days ago, we had the most beautiful day at A Place at the Table.
We welcomed brand new volunteers at a mixer who were pumped to jump in and serve. We had two catering gigs that helped support Table and spread the word. A fabulous nonprofit partner came in and set up a table to connect folks to their services. Fifteen people walked through our doors needing a meal and, honestly, connection. And we hosted a lunch and learn where we were able to deeply connect with new folks.
That’s the thing—this is what it’s all about.
People showing up.
People being seen.
People being loved.
And yesterday, I gave a keynote on belonging, on what it means to create spaces where people are known, fed, and welcomed just as they are. And as I stood there speaking, it struck me: we’re not just doing this for others. We’re doing it for ourselves too. We all need places where we can show up fully and know we belong.
So no matter what decisions are made at the federal level, this remains true: we’re here. Right here, alongside you. The world might make it harder, but we’re not going anywhere.
We’ll keep setting the table, again and again, for anyone who needs a good meal, a place to be in community, and a reminder that they matter. We’ll keep creating a space where everyone belongs, including you.
Thanks for being part of this community. Whether you’re showing up in person, donating, or cheering us on from afar, you’re part of what makes this belonging possible. I hope you feel it just as much as you give it to all of us.
In this with you,
Maggie
