When #EveryoneEats, NC thrives! BCBS of NC provides our largest donation to date!

A Place at the Table is pleased to announce Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina’s (Blue Cross NC) generous donation to A Place at the Table. This donation will provide 20 fresh and healthy meals per day for six months to those in need. Their contribution will also go towards upfront operational expenses that will help the cafe continue to thrive for many years to come.

On Tuesday, February 6th, members of the Blue Cross NC’s executive team and A Place at the Table board members and staff celebrated the new partnership with a celebratory event in our new permanent location. After years of searching for a location for the cafe, we are pleased to see our mission in action in our new permanent location. Without the generosity of our community partners, the cafe would not where we are today. At the event, executive director, Maggie Kane stated, “Now that Blue Cross NC is with us, it’s a message to the community that this company believes in what we’re doing, and we’re going to make it.”

Today, nearly one in every seven Wake County residents are food insecure, according to the Southeastern University Consortium for Food Security and Health.  Here at A Place at the Table, we strive to provide healthy food for all regardless of their means. Thanks to the generosity of Blue Cross NC we will be able to continue our mission and help reduce food insecurity North Carolina while providing an inclusive community space for all in downtown Raleigh.

This donation is one of several that Blue Cross NC has made to support local charities that align with the mission of Thrive NC a two-day event that will feature a food festival with contributions from top chefs and restaurants, live music, and community service. To kick off this event there will be collaborative summit designed to foster meaningful conversations on ways to address food system challenges in North Carolina. A Place at the Table is incredibly grateful for Blue Cross NC’s support and we look forward to continuing to our partnership with Blue Cross of NC for many years to come.
