Hey friends!!
A few weeks ago, I came in a little later than usual. And as I walked up to the café, I looked up the block and paused.
There was Lo. She and her family are here once or twice a week.. I know their story, I know what it means for them to have this place. And right next to her was Eve, who had just walked through our doors for the very first time with her mom and some friends. They had never met before that morning.
And there they all were. Giggling. Eating cookies. Chatting like they’d known each other forever.
What I didn’t know in that moment (because my brain forgets everything these days) was that a local artist was photographing it all–capturing a moment that would eventually find its way onto the pages of a kids’ book.
A kids’ book about Table!
And all that giggling and cookies and just-met-but-feel-like-old-friends energy? Those kids, that joy, that belonging? That’s how the book will feel. Because that’s Table.
The book is a community effort, just like Table. It’s written by local incredible author Susanna and illustrated by local amazing portraitist and muralist, Megan. Their work is supported by the United Arts of Wake County Artist Support Grant and Lulu Press is generously covering the printing. Table fans, every last one. Truly, a huge thank you.
I am just overjoyed. Honestly.
Because this book is going to capture what we hoped this place would be when we dreamed it up. Every. Single. Day.
Keep an eye out for storytimes with the author and illustrator, coming your way closer to the winter release date. It’s going to be EVERYTHING!! I cannot wait.
And now some excitement for the golfers in our community–and I know we have many of you!! The Bourbon and Birdies Charity Golf Tournament is sponsoring Table and we are SO pumped. If you love a good round (the golf kind or the highball kind) and want to support this community while you’re at it, check the tournament out here. Thank you, thank you, friends for supporting us in this way!
Finally, mark your calendars: Toast to Table, our fall fundraiser, is November 4th!! Tickets will be on sale in a couple of months and we would love to see you there! I may be biased, but I think it’s the party of the year.
We love you. We are so grateful for you. We could not do it without you and we certainly wouldn’t want to.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being part of this community and making mornings of kid-giggles and shared cookies and new friendships possible.
See you at the Table soon!!
Gratefully,
Maggie
