1. Community and De-Escalation Specialist (Full Time)

A Place at the Table (APATT) is a non-profit pay what you can cafe that is located in downtown Raleigh. Our
mission is to provide community and good food for all regardless of means. We have a welcoming and inviting
space that provides an opportunity for all people to experience conversation and community while enjoying an
excellent, fresh, and healthy meal.

The Community and De-escalation Specialist will represent the values of A Place at the Table and be dedicated
to the goal of listening and addressing the needs and concerns of all in our community. Their main focus will be
fostering a safe environment where everyone is welcome, feel a sense of belonging, and bringing the
community together with good food.

 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop deep relationships with diners and volunteers to activate community through upholding
    APATT’s values
  • Communicate APATT’s mission through new and existing customers & volunteers
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Implement policies and protocols that maintain café operations and APATT’s mission in-line with
    APATT’s core values
  • Oversee the staff’s safety through building trust and rapport with the community and leading de-
    escalation efforts when needed
  • Maintain records of restricted customers and assist staff with enforcing necessary boundaries

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for Table’s mission
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with people and emotional/dynamic situations
  • Experience working in nonprofit (either working or volunteering)

  • Able to encourage and motivate others, & build relationships inside and outside the organization
  • Able to prioritize, make decisions quickly that are sound, and exercise good judgment
  • Able to build trust and maintain strong relationships, but also enforce boundaries and de-escalate

2. Front of House (Part-Time)

Job summary:

A Place at the Table (APATT) is a non-profit pay what you can cafe that is located in downtown Raleigh. Our mission is to provide community and good food for all regardless of means. We have a welcoming and inviting space that provides an opportunity for all people to experience conversation and community while enjoying an excellent, fresh, and healthy meal.  

The Front of House Staff will represent the values of A Place at the Table, bringing people together around good food. This position will rotate between the front and the back of the house positions (see below), working with the Café Manager and Executive Chef as needed. You will perform a variety of tasks, from preparing food and beverages, stocking supplies, serving, expo’ing, handling the cash register, cleaning tables and counters, greeting customers, and answering questions. To achieve this you’ll need to be comfortable working with all types of people. 

All cafe staff are expected to represent the values of A Place at the Table and be dedicated to the goal of listening and addressing the needs and concerns of all in our community including our patrons and volunteers. Part of every cafe employee’s job is fostering an environment where everyone is welcome and feels a sense of belonging. 

 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Second Barista when needed (Barista experience not necessary. Training will be provided)
  • Expo
  • Cash register
  • Answer Phones
  • Point person for volunteers in morning and in volunteer switch time
  • Help back of house with various needed tasks (grocery runs, chips, pastry cabinet, etc.)
  • Greet customers 
  • Interact in a positive manner with all of the Table Community, including patrons and volunteers

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for Table’s mission
  • 1+ years of experience preparing and serving food
  • Experience working in nonprofit either working or volunteering preferred

 

Competencies

  • Able to prioritize, make decisions quickly that are sound and exercise good judgment
  • Able to work quickly and accurately during busy periods
  • Able to collaborate with all staff to ensure organization mission is achieved 
  • Adaptable, creative, takes initiative

3. Line Cook (Full or Part-Time)

Job summary

A Place at the Table (APATT) is a non-profit pay what you can cafe that is located in downtown Raleigh. Our mission is to provide community and good food for all regardless of means. We have a welcoming and inviting space that provides an opportunity for all people to experience conversation and community while enjoying an excellent, fresh, and healthy meal.  

The Line Cook will represent the values of A Place at the Table, bringing people together around good food. This position will rotate between Line Cook and Prep position, working with the Café Manager and Executive Chef as needed. You will perform a variety of tasks, from preparing food, canning preserved foods, training kitchen-volunteers, creating specials, and answering questions. To achieve this you’ll need to be comfortable working with all types of people. A Place at the Table partners with Raleigh City Farm where we source fresh produce grown blocks away. Kitchen staff are encouraged to bring their own creativity to the Table. 

All cafe staff are expected to represent the values of A Place at the Table and be dedicated to the goal of listening and addressing the needs and concerns of all in our community including our patrons and volunteers. Part of every cafe employee’s job is fostering an environment where everyone is welcome and feels a sense of belonging. 

 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Committed to the mission
  • Work with Executive Chef to create nutritious menu items that taste great and use fresh ingredients that are cost effective 
  • Employ food safety and sanitation best practices and makes sure that all kitchen staff members do the same
  • Work with Executive Chef to maintain appropriate stock and prepare orders as necessary 
  • Work with Kitchen Volunteers ensuring proper training and recipe execution. 
  • Work quickly and accurately during busy periods
  • Collaborate with all staff to ensure organization mission is achieved
  • Collaborate with all staff to ensure all Standard Operating Procedures are followed by Staff.
  • Maintain Variance Operations to ensure the continued certification of products.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times
  • Greet customers 
  • Interact in a positive manner with all of the Table Community, including patrons and volunteers

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for Table’s mission
  • 3+ years of experience preparing and serving food
  • Comfortable interacting will all people
  • Servsafe certified 
  • Computer literate – proficient in Excel, internet and email applications
  • Experience working in nonprofit either working or volunteering preferred
