She looked like she’d run a marathon before 9 a.m., one hand holding a diaper bag, the other balancing a toddler on her hip. You could see the exhaustion in her eyes, the kind that comes from holding it all together with no margin for rest.
And yet, when she walked into the café, something shifted.
One of our team members met her at the door with the kind of welcome that doesn’t ask questions. No forms. No judgment. Just a warm smile and a table where she could breathe. A fresh waffle was placed in front of her little one. Coffee found its way to her hand. And then the real nourishment began.
They talked. About real life. About resources she hadn’t known were available. About a possible job lead. About someone she could call when the weight got heavy again.
She left with more than breakfast. She left with a plan. A little bit of hope. A reminder that she mattered.
This is what the team of A Place at the Table does, not because we’re perfect, but because we keep showing up. And that is because of you.
You’ve helped us create a space where single moms aren’t just fed, they’re seen. Where tired students find both espresso and encouragement. Where every day, someone walks in feeling alone and walks out reminded they’re not. When I walk in feeling alone and I am reminded I am not. This world is hard right now and we need a place like this. We need a place where we all are reminded that we are not alone.
In just a few weeks, I’ll be reaching out to ask for support, telling you all how many more people we are seeing each day, more stories, more hope. But for now, I just need to say thank you. Thank you for believing in this messy, beautiful work. For every coffee, every kind word, every gift that makes this place possible. We don’t just serve food. We serve dignity. And you’re part of that. Truly, we couldn’t do this without you.
